Writing, blogging and more

I hate Mondays almost as much as I hate mornings. I doubt that’s a surprise to anyone here. There isn’t enough coffee in the world for a Monday morning. That’s especially true this morning. As I write this post, I’m looking at my to-do list for today and for the week. I swear it’s longer than I am tall. But it all has to be done and done this week. Why? Because writing is my business and I need to treat it as such.

But what does that mean?

It means there’s more than writing to do. This week, I need to finish updating the first book to be relaunched. Why? I want to get it to my beta readers ASAP to see what they think. Also, it is the only way to keep up with my publishing schedule. So that is number something-or-other on my list.

It also means I need to start setting up the promotions for the relaunched book. That means setting a publication date. Taking the original book off sale. It also means setting up the schedule for the re-edits/rewrites on the other books in the series and setting their publication dates — and sticking to it. In other words, writing and planning.

But there’s more.

Isn’t there always more than just writing?

I need to redesign my website. Yes, I have a website besides this blog. But, while I keep up with the blog, I tend to forget about the website. As a result, it is woefully out-of-date. That means I’ll spend the better part of a day pulling my hair out as I get that done.

If that’s not enough, I need to finish formatting print versions for all my books currently not in print. That also means writing back copy and doing the cover flats .  Then I need to update my keywords and categories for every book. Every. Damned. Book.

And check the blurbs to see if they need to be rewritten or updated.

Rattle Them Chains writingThat’s just the start. I still need to work on Rattle Them Chains. Then there are my blogging commitments to Mad Genius Club, Victory Girls and According to Hoyt. Not to mention blogging here. So more writing.

And writing is good.

Somehow, it must be done and done this week. Will it? God willing and the creek don’t rise, as my grandmother would say. Of course, then she’d mutter something in German and refuse to translate it for me.

It’s a lot of work. I’ll be honest, it’s work I should have already done. I haven’t because I’d rather write, like most writers. The nuts and bolts of the non-writing aspect of the business seems to get pushed to the end of the line. Well, the line has circled around and is biting me on the butt. That means it’s time to get it in gear.

There will be at least one cover reveal this week–one that reveals the series being relaunched. Right now, I need to decide on new titles for the books and for the series. Why? Because at least two of the books are being buried in title searches. Too many other books now have the same or similar titles. I may keep the series title. I’ve not come to a final decision there.

Anyway, there’s a great deal to do and it is a little after  0830 here. Time to grab another cold brewed glass of coffee and get to work. Until tomorrow!
