Thursday Thoughts

Good morning, all. I’m off to a bit of a late start with the blog this morning because I’ve been digging through various back-up media looking for one file. One . . . file. One frigging little file that seems to be missing. Sigh. I’ll find it. I almost always do. But now it’s become a “need” to find it NOW! Which is why I decided it was time to stop and blog and hope the file’s location dawns on me in the process. Of course, that left me with the question of what to blog about. It’s kind of sad when a writer doesn’t know what to blog about, isn’t it?

So let’s do the obvious first: work. I’m taking the rest of the week off from Tearing the Veil (or whatever the hell I wind up calling it. Yes, I’m still not sure what the title will be and that frustrates the hell out of me). While I do, my alpha reader is looking at the rough draft. So, until I get notes back, I don’t want to muck about with it.

Since sending Veil out, I started looking again at Blood Stripe. This is the short story (possibly a novella) set in the Honor & Duty universe. I’m looking forward to digging back into it. I have a very rough draft already. Okay, let’s be honest. It doesn’t really count as a draft, more of a sketch. I also have a new cover for it. I know, I know. I’d posted a cover draft earlier but I wasn’t happy with it. I’ve put something else together and will post it here later. . . mainly because it still needs some tweaking.

What else?

Since we’re going on this basic stream of consciousness, I-don’t-know-what-to-blog-about bit, I guess I’ll admit now that I’m trying to convince myself not to buy the new Mass Effect Legendary edition. I love the Mass Effect trilogy. I’ll even admit that Mass Effect: Andromeda isn’t the worst game I’ve ever played. But, damn, Mass Effect 1-3 are some of the best games I’ve ever played, especially ME 2.

The Legendary edition contains all three original games AND all the DLC except for Pinnacle Station. I’m not broken hearted about PS not being included. For all the times I’ve played and replayed the trilogy, PS was pretty much a non-starter for me. I kept forgetting about it because it never made much of an impression on me. So not having it included in the new edition is not a deal-breaker.

But do I really need a new copy of the games? I’ll admit, the idea of having it updated for new hardware, for better visuals and–oh hell yeah–better handling of the Mako in ME1 are tempting. But it is still the same games I’ve already played multiple times. Still, the chance to get back into that universe and revisit Commander Shepherd and friends is tempting.

In other words, I’m dithering here. Mainly because I don’t really want to jump fully into Stripe until I finish Veil and I can’t finish Veil until I get it back from the alpha reader. So I look for distractions like games and books. No new book has grabbed me this week, so I’m looking at games.

What I really need to do is look for more coffee and try to find that missing file. So, it’s back to the hunt.
