Returning to Normal

Stress can do weird things to you. I’d forgotten that these last few months. Well, to be honest, I’d forgotten it the last six month. I couldn’t figure out why it seemed to be harder and harder to write. It wasn’t writer’s block. At least not the sort I usually deal with. When that hits, I simply move to another project. This was a mind-numbing, I don’t want to write anything. I hated it but I couldn’t seem to force myself to sit down and do anything that resembled writing much of anything.

Doing blogs was a chore. That’s why this site suffered as much as it had. I wanted to keep my commitments to Mad Genius Club, According to Hoyt and Victory Girls. That meant blogging here trickled down to almost nothing. Fortunately, Sarah understood and told me not to worry about ATH. Finally, this week, the veil lifted and the words started flowing again.

The last couple of days have seen me doing upwards of 10k words each day. I finally finished the rough draft for Nocturnal Revelations. I’m waiting for a cover mock-up. Once I get it, I’ll reveal it here. Assuming no hiccups along the way, I anticipate the book coming out in the next month or so.

It won’t be the only thing coming out for the holidays. I have a novella already pretty much written in the Eerie Side of the Tracks universe. I just need to sweet talk Sarah into a cover for it. Then it will go out the door to the editor.

I have also outlined the next, and final, novel in the Sword of the Gods trilogy. I’m getting excited to get back to Cait and company. I’ve reread the latest book in the Honor & Duty series and am working on the outline for the next installment.

So, yeah, I guess you could say the dam has broken.

The why is simply. After falling and injuring her shoulder in June and having surgery this Fall, Mom is well on the road to recovery. She still can’t drive and there are things she can’t do around the house, but she is so much better. That has lifted a lot of the stress and worry and that, in turn, let Myrtle the Evil Muse get back to work.

It’s also given me the headspace for blogging again. Not counting this post, I’ve done three blog posts in the last 24 hours. Yes, one is a retread with some rewrites of a post I did for According to Hoyt. But it does have some new material. If you’re interested, here they are:

And the Light Dawns (Mad Genius Club)

From the VG Bookshelf: Hope Never Dies (Victory Girls Blog)

Election Fraud? What Election Fraud? (Victory Girls Blog)

I’ll be back Friday with a new post and possibly a snippet. As for tomorrow, everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving! Stay safe. Have fun and enjoy being with family and friends.

  1. Didn’t know that you’ve been in Normal, Illinois? 👿

Glad to hear that things are going better. 😀

  2. Good to hear that your mom is doing better! I’ve been wondering how things were going; the occasional posts on MGC and ATH were evidence that you were still functioning, but the loooong silence here still had me worried.

  3. I actually spent this past long weekend in Normal Illinois with youngest son and his family. Grandbabies are 16 and 17 now, still a treat and a handful.
But I’m home again now and ready for any stray editing tasks that might come my way.
