Next Up. . . . Blood Stripe!

Now that I’ve come up for air after finishing Jaguar Rising and getting the files uploaded for Tuesday’s release, it’s time to consider the next project. As I mentioned yesterday, I wasn’t sure what my next project should be. Part of that was the exhaustion after having finished one book. Part was I’ve had several different projects percolating in the back of my mind for a bit. Part was, well, Myrtle the Evil Muse. But after a good night’s sleep, some gaming and looking at my notes, I’ve decided I’m going to do Blood Stripe next. It’s set in the Honor & Duty universe and will take place at the same time as Risen From Ashes.

Blood Stripe is a story I’ve wanted to tell for some time. It is, in my mind, necessary to fleshing out the full story surrounding Ash Shaw and the events that led to her and members of her command being court-martialed before Vengeance from Ashes. It will follow the actions of some of those court-martialed with her as they search for answers into what happened and why. Other characters from the series will play key roles but, for this one title, Ashlyn will not be the lead.

I’m excited to begin writing the story and seeing exactly where it takes me.

Here’s a mock-up of what is at least the temporary cover for the book:

I’m not thrilled with the figure, but it will work for inspiration until I find something else.

Oh, and don’t let the “short story” verbiage fool you. I’m not guaranteeing that’s what it will be, Looking at my notes–and learning after Jaguar Rising–I have a feeling it will be a novella. Hell, for all I know, it will turn into a short novel. Knowing Myrtle the Evil Muse, she’s going to want to make this into a goat gagger and start a whole new sub-series.

But that will not happen. Even if I have to grab the evil muse, chain her in the basement and gag her.

(Why is she laughing and muttering, “famous last words”?)

So, starting Monday–probably sooner, but that’s the plan, I’ll get to work on Blood Stripe.

In the meantime, don’t forget you can still pre-order Jaguar Rising. Release date for the e-book is next Tuesday. The paperback version will be available within a few days of that date.

Life changed for Mackenzie Santos more than a decade ago when she woke on a slab in the morgue. If that wasn’t bad enough, then she started turning furry.

And that was just the beginning of the changes in her life and in the world around her.

Since then, Mac’s life has been filled with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. Her responsibilities as cop, mother, pride alpha and member of the Tribunal mean she’s seen the best and worst in both the human and paranormal worlds. . . and the worst is yet to come. It seems someone plans to celebrate her promotion with a real bang!

A monster stalks the streets of Dallas, It has targeted Mac and those close to her. Worse, this “monster” knows her. It spent years studying her, learning her strengths and weaknesses. Worse, it isn’t afraid of harming innocents in its quest to get to her.

Mac will do whatever it takes to bring down this new threat because failure means more than just death. It means all-out war between humans and paras.
