Just a quick post while we have power. Texas, which doesn’t do winter well, is in the grip of a cold snap unlike any we’ve seen in a very long time. I’ve lived her pretty much all my life and I don’t remember a time when the entire state (save a couple of counties) is under a winter storm warning. Snow and ice are hitting areas as far south as Houston and below. Here in the DFW area, we’ve got at least 4 inches of snow on the ground–with ice under it in all too many places. The current temperature is 6 degrees with a windchill in the negative double digits.

Yes, a lot of Texans are whining this morning.

We are also experiencing rolling blackouts around the state and have been warned to expect them for at least another day or two. Worse, there is more snow and ice due Tuesday going into Wednesday. We aren’t going to get above freezing until the end of the week.

So far, our block has lucked out and hasn’t lost power but it is only a matter of time. Several neighborhoods around us have lost it three and four times since midnight. So posting may be infrequent and not at the normal times. Please bear with me.

In the meantime, all electronics are charged and staying that way. I’m about to brew another pot of coffee for the thermos. Better to play it safe than sorry.

The featured image at the top of the post shows my front yard last night, before the bulk of the snow hit.

Now you can’t see the walk, the ground cover, the grass or the curb across the street. But the real indicator of just how cold and snowy it is? Not-our-cat who usually shows up by 0600 for breakfast and cuddles before heading to Mom’s room to nap has not shown a whisker this morning.

You guys stay warm and safe and I’ll be back later (hopefully) with another post.

  1. It’s sub zero (no windchill) here in North Central OK. We don’t have as much snow but tge ice is hidden and nasty. On the upside they’re not predicting blackouts and the insulation on the well is holding. Hopefully through the negative teens they’re predicting for tomorrow night

  2. Now what are you going to do when winter gets here…. Oh, winter is here.

    Stay Warm Everybody! 😀

    1. I keep asking $HOUSEMATE, when he complains, what he’s gonna do when it gets cold and he keeps replying “Whaddayamen ‘gets’?” which might have some impact if he hadn’t been saying since late August….

  3. try to stay as warm as possible.

might be a good idea to remind your local, state and federal congress critters that restricting energy is a bad thing for their constituents as well
