I have been sitting on the sidelines, watching as some folks claim that you can’t be a fan of science fiction if you don’t go to cons, read sf magazines, belong to local clubs, etc. It doesn’t matter how many books you’ve read and enjoyed. It doesn’t matter how many science fiction movies or games you’ve watched or played. If you don’t meet some super-secret definition of fan and then pass the test, you aren’t a fan.
Bull!
As you can tell, it’s an issue that got under my skin. I have a problem whenever someone tells someone else they can’t be something because that other person doesn’t conform to some preconceived and irrelevant requirement. So, well, that became my Mad Genius Club post this morning. You can check it out here.
I’ll be back later with a post for this blog. But now I need to find more coffee and try to get out of the berserker mode so I can get some work done. Until later!
