Like many of you here, I am a military mother. I come from a family that gladly stepped up and served this country, going back to the earliest days of the Republic. But tonight I am not only hurting for those 12 families who are learning of the deaths of their loved ones serving in Kabul but I am angry. I am angrier than I have been in a very long time and that anger is aimed at the man sitting in the Oval Office.
How dare he stand there and say he knows what those families feel tonight because he lost a son to cancer! I feel for his loss but it is not the same thing. HE got to say goodbye to his son. HE had time to prepare for the inevitable. Those 12 families did not. In fact, those 12 families depended on him, on his Joint Chiefs of Staff, on the command structure to put together a plan that would safely get not only our military personnel and citizens home from Afghanistan but also those who risked their lives working with us.
He failed those 11 fallen Marines and the fallen Navy corpsman. He failed their families. He failed those who relied on our country to keep our word. Now he says he will hunt down those responsible. I’m sure they are quaking in their boots–not. NOTHING POTUS has done since taking office shows any backbone, any determination to be an effective Commander-in-Chief.
My thoughts and prayers are with those 12 families tonight as well as with the families of those injured and those still left in Afghanistan. God protect them and watch over them.
And God help this country.
