Nocturnal Revelations: thoughts on promotion

Like most authors, I suck at self-promo. Part of that is because my mind doesn’t work that way. Part of it is it seems like bragging–or begging. But the biggest part is simple. I’d much rather be writing. Unfortunately, I do need to do promo and I’m really proud of this book. So. . . . here are some of the ideas I’ve had to help promote Nocturnal Revelations.

First, I’ve gone through the other books in the series and lowered their prices. Every book until Nocturnal Rebellion is now priced at $2.99.  Rebellion is priced at $3.99.

Second, the week before Revelations release, the boxed set of the first three books of the series will be on sale for $0.99.

Third, I’m playing around with some promo pieces. The time involved is enough to make me want to beat my head against the wall. Okay, mostly because Gimp has updated again and I spent more than an hour trying to figure out where all the text tools had disappeared to.  Anyway, here’s the rough draft for what I’m considering doing. This is the first draft of a series of blurbs from the book that I might start putting up here and on social media. Of course, I’m also terrified the idea sucks and that has me second and third-guess myself.

I know, I know. I need to edit it to add the title of the book and release information. Still, this is just the first draft. What do you guys think?

(Insecure writer now going to hide under the sink,)

  1. Must be less under your sink than is under mine. 😈

Seriously, as you said it needs title & other info, but makes me both “want to see what happens next and whack the author for letting us imagine her dead”. 😀

    That it, looks good.

  2. I like it!

I think the short blurb with an interesting background will probably capture the attention of people who’d skip over an entire chapter.

Of course, I suck at self-promotion too, so you probably want to discount that comment.

    1. Thanks, Margaret! One of the authors I follow, who is very good at self-promo, does something like this. So I thought I’d give it a try on the this book and at least the next one coming out to see if it help any.
