Rocky weighs 45 pounds and is pure neurotic. He has decided that he's afraid of the either the back door or the back porch. Up until a couple of months ago, he loved going outside and would beat a path to the door at the vaguest suggestion that he could go play. Now he will run to the far side of the den, belly firmly attached to the floor and become a limp noodle if you try to get him out. On good days, he will let you lead him by the collar and will tentatively follow you outside if you keep a hand on his neck. On bad days, it is either pick him up and carry him out -- not an easy task because he doesn't want to be picked up -- or you have to have one hand on the collar and the other pushing from the hind quarters. But, this being the poster child for neurotic dogs everywhere, it will pass and he will become scared of something else before too much longer. At least I hope so.

How big is your dog? Mine is a small adult beagle and I've picked her up in order to throw her outside. [Smile]

Mind you, she may not like me picking her up but once I have she's good about it.

For that matter, if I have to put her down in order to open the door, she will wait until I do open it.

Thanks, Paul. Actually, things have been going better. The last two visits, this one included, have seen the doc increasing the time between appointments. Today, for the first time, he talked about there actually being the possibility that she might not need injections in the future. Considering that she has wet macular degeneration in one eye, this is very good news. So, fingers crossed and we get to wait 7 weeks before her next appt. That's a big improvement over every 4 weeks.

The prose bit was intended as a shorthand for my best estimates, based on comments by readers who probably aren't biased politically against it, how close it is likely to be to my tastes. There's also some projection into the future of nearer term issues like oppurtunity cost and mood.

A 'not currently real high on the priority list' and 'might be a bit outside my current reading habits'.

I know I've seen widely differing reports on both books I have enjoyed, and those I have not. When I first tried to read Lord of The Rings, I petered out quickly. Later, I got through it pretty quick.

My usual thing goes something like:
'I think it totally did work. Starting changed from saloon to speakeasy, stopping changed from speakeasy to bar. Bar was enough better than Saloon that it constituted a minor victory for the Anti-Saloon League. Saloon was dysfunctional enough that it was already a niche for crime.'

I expect it is utterly boring if you've seen me trot it out even once in politics.

I have never been able to finish any of Ayn Rand's books. They're just too forced. I've read ALL the Dune books, including a couple of the ones written by one of Frank Herbert's sons(?), The latter are poor compared to the former. It isn't until you get to "Chapeterhouse Dune" that the series becomes clear, in a startling way. In part, it's a condemnation of ALL forms of compulsive government AND religion. It's necessary to read it with a grain of salt, but then, just about all fiction should be read with the salt shaker handy.

I recently read John Ringo's "Road to Damascus", and enjoyed it. It, even more than Ayn Rand, should be used for education, but the very title would keep it out of most school's libraries, much less the classroom.

Both early Heinlein and late Heinlein set my teeth on edge, but I've finished them. Even the man himself said that his medical condition affected his writing in his later years, and it shows.
